Tenno no Samurai

Tenno no Samurai means roughly in in Japanese "Retainers of the Emperor"

Origins

During the 22 Founding of Space marines is was seen by the High Lords of Terra that Fuji system had a potential gap in the Imperial defenses. While there was large Imperial Guard regiments coming from the Planet, they were largely leaving the Planet to defend to a badly managed PDF force. While there were strong arguments made about the unlikeliest of a attack on the worlds in the system, the relative unclaimed resources on several of the worlds made for a great importance to the Imperialium. The High Lords committed to creating a Space Marine Chapter on the world. The Imperial Guard requirement was removed from the Systems required tithe. However the Regiments asked that a Volunteer recruitment continue. The High Lords of Terra believe that this would be alright as long as other quotas were met.

Marcus Derinade was the First Chapter master and as he looked for recruits in those first days he found a people strong in their traditions and also fully dedicated to the Emperor. The martial dominated culture surprised him, as did the poorly managed PDF, Taking away the power from a corrupt Adminstatium Official, as was he right. He reformed the government into a direct military dictatorship. Finding a loyal and intelligent Major, called Himura Kenshin, in the PDF he Promoted him past all of the people who played favourite with the old governor and placed him at the head of PDF and the New Government. Taking the traditional title of Shogun, Marcus decided that making as effort to identify the Chapter with the people would greatly aid in his creation of the new chapter. So after it became apparent that people of Fuji IV were more strong willed that expected. They could remember their families after training and implantation was completed. Tests were run, things were check and double checked it was unexplainable under the processes of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Marcus filled several nights with prayer, fasting and mediation, and on the seven night of this fast he had a vision. In the vision, he fought beside the Tenno no Samurai as the fought Chaos on a planet with a red Desert. There they fought in the name of the Emperor. Some shout family names others laughed in the face of Death. Victory was had, the dead were mourned and their bodies recovered. The Vision ceased and Marcus found himself on the floor of the Chapel of the Emperor. Determined he told the members of Adeptus Mechanicus that the Samurai No Tenno were fine as is. Questions were raised by Adeptus Mechanicus and a envoy from the High Lords of Terra was call in to review. Marcus did everything he could to show that these people were blessed by the Emperor and deserved to keep that blessing. The High Lords Envoy returned to Terra. Marcus waited ten years with just 40 original trainee practicing and keeping up with their training awaiting their fate. Marcus would send communication monthly hoping that word would come that his Chapter would be allowed to face battle as they were meant to. Finally An envoy returned to Fuji IV. He brought word that the High Lords of Terra agreed that it must be a blessing of the Emperor that they could remember their families. The Tenno no Samurai would be formed Marcus could proceed as he saw fit. Marcus then forged his now approved force into the Finest fight force he could. Already a master of tactics from the Ultramarines, the years of waiting had changed Marcus, he become something other that the man he once was. Fuji IV's people had change him. The Ultramarines was not where he belonged. Here was where he belonged. He learned some of the Native Martial arts and added them to his own. He became more flexible and more willing to change to things that worked. This was most notable in Marcus' insistence to use Fuji IV's Native tongue in the naming of the Chapter. The faith in the Emperor, would be honoured in this manner. Since that time the Tenno no Samurai have stood as bastions of loyal marines in the face of all comers, as has Fuji IV's people and their traditions.

The Battle at Ravin IV would barely be a footnote in any other chapter's history standard fair, a Splinter group of the Black Legion had landed on the planet and seemed to be making a base. Imperial Navel Scout Ship spotted their landing and A small strike force of the Tenno no Samurai was dispatched to the site. A ghostly figure appeared during the battle, it didn't strike the Members of the Strike force as odd at the time is wasn't until the figure faded that the members of the strike force understood who they had seen, Marcus, their first Chapter Master. The then when to the Chapter history where Marcus had recorded his vision. There it was a description of the battle some of the names phonetics were slightly off but given that Marcus was not from Fuji IV and his mastery of the language was far from complete, that would be understandable. Tenno no Samurai believe that the Emperor had granted this blessing seeing their future. Since then Marcus is worshiped much like a Primarch is in First founding Chapters as it is clear to the Tenno no Samurai that Marcus was especially blessed by the Emperor.

Homeworld

Tenno no Samurai's fortress base, sits on the side of Mount Tokuyama. The Heavily fortified mimics the Classic Lines for Castles of the Planet Fuji since before reunification, when the Emperor came and showed the people of Fuji IV the True light. This is represented often as red Sun Disk in art, and on the Shoulder pads of Samurai no Tenno. This however, is not representing the Emperor as the Sun but representing the guiding light he brought to the Fuji system was reclaimed into the Imperium. Fuji IV is a Largely Agricultural world. Military Manufacturing has largely been kept to Fuji III which is largely a Mining world with a Mean Temperature of just over 40 degrees C. Fuji II and Fuji I are mining worlds where special Machines and Underground bases are used and the Mean temperatures are much hotter than Fuji III. Fuji V, VI, VII VIII are beyond an asteroid field and are all gas Giants Each with many moons and Rings. Fuji XI is largely believed to be a Errant Moon of Fuji VIII. as it a small Earth body, still considered a Planet by the local system population.

The Chapter Master, Field Marshal, and General of the PDF form the Technical heads of government all three serving as the Heads of the Shogun Council. The Chapter Master's Governing title is Shogun although it rarely used outside of the Planet. Both the Field Marshal and General are Vice-Shogun but the General of the PDF is generally the Defacto leader of the Government of the Planet because of the fact that both the Chapter Master and Field Marshal are off fighting for the Emperor. The Rest of the Council is made up of Daimyo of the large Prefect Districts of the Planet, Many are based on old Clan Territories from before the Return of the Emperor.

Gene-seed

Tenno no Samurai are not a 100% sure were their Gene-stock come from. The quickly given answer is that it Guilliman Geneseed, well Tenth or Eleventh Founding Successor Chapter, no one outside the High Lords of Terra and the Adeptus Mechanicus really know and they are not talking about it. There is some suspicion within the Chapter and likely within the Inquisition that Samurai no Tenno's Gene Seed is a mixture of several Gene Seeds. Some thing that seems to support this is the fact that rather than one Chapter providing the Training officers. Several chapters did, Marcus was of the Ultramarines, Two of the Scout Training officers were from Eagle Warriors, The Two Chaplains were from the Blood Angels as was one of the Assault Trainers, The Devastators trainers were from Marauders, the Bike Commander was from the Storm Lords . None, not even the Blood Angels returned to the Chapters All followed Marcus' lead and stayed, thought the Assault Train was kill only 50 years later in lightning Assault against a Ork rok, many believe that he suffered from the black rage that mission. Of course the missing Betcher's Gland also points to something odd about the Gene seed. That said the tithe of Geneseed to Adeptus Mechanicus has never caused problems, or as some point out, shown anything that the Adeptus Mechanicus wasn't expecting to see.

The missing Betcher's Gland: Tenno no Samurai are missing this particular organ which allows a marine to spit acid. Actually kind of handy because of the fact that Tenno no Samurai tend to some time have romantic relationships with the Woman of Fuji IV and other planets. Few of the Chapter miss it but it does raise Questions since none of the know Guilliman Chapters are missing this Gland.

Beliefs

The Average marine is recruited during his early teens some as late as 14 and 15 one are selected. Unlike many Marines, they will retain memories of their childhood and training. Remembering who their families are and what they mean to them. This is seen a direct blessing of the Emperor on the Tenno no Samurai, for their unquestionable loyalty to the Emperor. Not just the Space Marines but of the entire population. The marine will not see his family for years at a time, but he will remember. Many carry holos of their families and the Chapter's Tradition to write letters home on the eve of battle. These will be delivered even if it takes years to do so from the other side of the Galaxy. When Marine manages to return home for Shore leave Families have reunions around the event and badger the poor marine to near death with news and explanations of what he has missed. This marks the Tenno no Samurai as being much different than many marines. They have a much greater understanding of the failings of other men. Loyalty to the Emperor is unquestioned among the Samurai No Tenno, but they see how others can be blinded by other things. They judge less, When Imperial Guard flees, they are seen as weak, but not to be hated only pitied.

Compassion is not a foreign word among the Samurai No Tenno, they hold a good reputation among Imperial Guard men [If not always their officers] for their unwillingness to waste men. When choosing to send ten marines or one hundred Guards men to do a task that will kill 90% the Captains of the Tenno no Samurai will always send the marines. This is their task in life, to serve the Emperor and if need be to die in battle.

Combat Doctrine

The Samurai No Tenno have developed a well rounded training regiment, and are able to fight as the Codex Astartes directs chapters. They do, however, prefer a combat doctrine of close combat supported by suppressive, ranged firepower. The chapter is quite capable of shifting combat tactics to what will work and will certainly examine every resource on an upcoming enemy. The chapter will make use of sniper and devastate squads to provide cover fire for the assaulting squads, moving across the field of battle, to meet the opposition face to face. The chapter prefers close combat for a number of reasons. One reason is that it eliminates reliance on ammunition. A brother with one power Katana or chain sword can kill more enemies than a bolter with 1 clip for the clip will eventually expend all ammunition while the brother's Katana will always be ready to strike. Another reason is that the Astartes are stronger, faster, and more deadly than many xenos forces in close combat. Other races choose to make up for their overall lack of close combat ability by using very deadly ranged weaponry. By engaging these xenos threats at close range, the chapter eliminates their enemies strengths and presents an opportunity for its brothers to take advantage of their potent ability. Lascannons and Missile launchers are a favourite though Multi Melta are also favourite for encounters with harder mobile targets. As a Result Land Raiders are a favoured method of Transportation, Crusaders and Redeemers especially favoured.

Chapter Organization

The chapter truly does value the lives of the Imperial citizens and much like the Space Wolves and Salamanders, will often take on the less revered, yet vital, tasks of protecting supply lines, reinforcing Imperial Guard positions, and aiding Imperial citizens in evacuation by protecting their cities and worlds from oncoming forces. The chapter truly does value the lives of the Imperial citizens. The chapter will make decisions on the field of battle that include Imperial Guard and Imperial Navy forces as brothers in arms, rather than cannon fodder. And eliminating Imperial forces and citizens along with threats is seen as negligence, laziness, and action that is not in line with the Emperors vision for the Astartes. The strong Military tradition of the Fuji System that dates back to reunification with the Imperium has strongly reinforced this love of the Fellow Military Arms of the Imperium's armed forces.

Scouts

Scouts hold a position of equality with the other brothers of the chapter. Scouts, rather than being apprentices, the predecessors to tactical marines, are similar in use to Devastators and assault squads. They are specialists, and serve to fill a specific role on the battlefield.

Librarians

Tenno no Samurai Librarians are a weird group of Space Marines, They are unlike the quite scholars of other chapter, with their serious study and mighty powers of Emperor's Blessing. Instead that are humour filled, cunning, practical jokers with stories and riddles that can fill 10,000 books. No question is answered straight, everything is a puzzle. Within this eccentric behavior lays uncanny truth. The Emperor on rare occasions give these Librarians visions of the future. Often called Emperor's sight, this visions are well studied by the Librarians, each being wisdom.

Company Structure

The chapter does not adhere to the teachings of Guilliman Compared to most Chapter with his Geneseed. Practical is always the watch word of the Tenno no Samurai. Command Squads are considered to be Specialist like drivers are kept separate from the main forces Manpower.

The 1st company, known with in the Chapter as Shi no Daimyo[Lords of Death], is comprised of around 100 Veterans and includes those who have attained terminator honors as with most chapters. They often fight alongside other companies rather than as a full company themselves. This doesn't include Ni Bushi [Sun Warriors], the Chapter Masters Bodyguard. That is 20 Strong.

The 2nd through 9th comprised the chapter's battle companies. They initially maintained 100 marines in each.
The Tenth Company [Scouts] has 300 men in ten man Squads these are normally so scattered around that only the Chapter master is really in the know of where they all are or how many they are are. The idea behind it is to avoids companies being totally crippled. Because of this intention scouts are full member of the marines unlike how they are in many Marine Chapters.

The Training Force includes active marines and they are 20 to 25 Marines strong.

The Lost Chapter

At one point in the late 37M the Third Tenno no Samurai Chapter along with part of the Vedric the Red Wolf's great company when off to defeat in incursions of the Black Legion on Medusa V. The fought there cut of from the Imperium for 50 years because of a maelstrom of the warp. One their return they got lost in the warp for what seemed like only months onboard the Battle Barge they were on.only to find on thier return that it had been nearly four millennia since they were last seen. The appeared in the Fuji system only a few years ago, the Space Wolveswhen back to their own but a handful stayed with the lost company members. The lost company currently functions as a full automatist wing of the Tenno no Samurai, they have adapted a number of Space Wolf tactics and even have a breading stock of Thunder Wolves. As such they taken to the norther fortress as their home.

Battlecry

Laughing

"For the Emperor!"
"Honour the Emperor's faith in us!"
"Blessed are we the Samurai of Tenno!"
"Macrus saw our future, We must live up to that Future!"
"We do not fear death, Death fears us!"
