Ranma 1/2 is one of the most popular Anime that have moved over to Canada. several seasons of Ranma have been dubbed in Vancouver and are available on VHS and DVD. The series is about a teenage martial artist named Saotome Ranma and his life when he and his father move in with the Tendo's. An agreement between the families causes Ranma to be engaged to Tendo Akane, nether are thrilled with the idea at first. I have really enjoyed it. It can be very off the wall and weird at times [something like 96% sounds about right]. This page has some character summaries and who I like and dislike and with luck even the reasons why. Feel Free to tell me I am wrong.
Saotome Ranma
Ranma is the 16 year old son of Saotome genma and Heir to the Saotome school of Anything Goes Martial Arts. He is
engaged to Tendo Akane, who he and his father are mooching, sorry I mean living with. his problems began when his father
took him training in China to train at Jusenkyo (Very Cursed Springs) despite the fact that Genma did speak or read Chinese.
Both Genma and Ranma fell into springs, Ranma into Nyannichuan and Genma into Shonmaniichuan. Now when Ranma is
splashed with cold water he becomes a very cute red headed girl. Ranma seems to not be happy with his Engagement to
Akane. Although at times he goes to great lengths to save Akane from harm. Several other Girls want Ranma for their husband
causing a number of problems for Ranma. Shampoo, Kodachi, and Ukyo are interested in being Ranma's wife. (yep, he is so
hard done by. I should have such problems.) In theory, Ranma is engaged to Ukyo as well as Akane. Ranma sometime can be
very selfish and doesn't understand how his actions affect others. Ranma has one very unbelievable characteristic, he doesn't
seem to like being hugged by girls. (I mean what 16 year old boy doesn't like being hugged by a girl. I remember being 16, I
would have killed to have Ranma's girl problems.) As if is life did have enough problems, Ranma in his girl form is loved by
Kuno Tatewaki, an upper class boy, who is the school's captain of the Kendo Club. Tatewaki has his own problems because
he can not decide who he loves more, the pig-tailed girl (Ranma-chan) or Akane. Ranma can get very jealous when some
other guy is trying to gain Akane's affection, despite the fact he says that he does want Akane. Ranma also has a code of
honour and as a result he doesn't hit girls, at least while he is guy form and they are not trying to KILL him. Ranma overall is
not real a bad guy, but for reasons I don't understand he seems to make a better girl.

Tendo Akane
Akane is Ranma's fiancee, she is also 16 years old. She in general dislikes boys, who she is always fighting off everyday
before school. She doesn't like being engaged to Ranma because he is a jerk. She in the beginning had long hair, but a fight
between Ranma and Ryoga cause it to be cut off. She is the hair to the Tendo Dojo and is a skilled Martial artist, however she
is not as skilled as Ranma. She, like Ranma, gets very jealous when other girls hit on Ranma and often takes on challenges to
keep Ranma away from other Girls. She has a tendency to hit Ranma for the actions of his other girlfriends. She has fought
Kuno Tatewaki on a number of occasions and won allowing her to date him if she wanted. She does like Ryoga, although it is
more of a friendship. Despite what Ranma thinks she is cute. She cannot cook and people have been known to run in fear from
her cooking. Ranma once ate her cookies and had a massive stomach ache. She often ends up being the prize in Fights
between Ranma and his enemy* of the week. Personally I have always though Akane looked better in short hair.

Saotome Genma
Genma is Ranma's father. He is an IDIOT. He made Ranma swim to China and train at Jusenkyo despite the fact that he did
not speak or read Chinese. Baka, Baka, BAKA!!!!!!!!!!! He also prone to think of his stomach first. He traded way Ranma
away for a fish, rice and two pickles. He like his friend Tendo Soun, he trained under evil Sensei Happosai. He kneels before
Happosai. when he is trouble with his master but plots with Soun to get rid of thier master when he is not around. He also
promiced Ranma to Kuonji Ukyo in exchanged for her father's Okkinomiyaki cart. Genma is an idiot that has caused his son
more trouble than anyone else, as such he deserives every kick to the head that he gets!

Tendo Nabiki 
Nabiki is the Middle Child in the Tendo family. the is the Sarcastic and smart alec. She has the Heart of a con artist and the
the school bookie. She one of those girls that your mother warned you about. She has sold pictures of both Ranma-chan and
Akane to Tatewaki and runs betting pools on Ranma's fights. She also seems to be the only member of the family that makes
any money, which implies that she is very good since she is supporting six people on her income. She is also the only Tendo
that can be seductive. I have been asked why her rating is so high, well because she the Sexyest girl in the show. the more I watch the "Ice woman" the more I like her. Cerrtently in the OVA and the Movies she HOT!!!!!!! She also the most western woman in the series thus easyest to understand.

Tendo Kasumi
Kasumi is the eldest daughter of Tendo Soun. She is very quiet and polite. Almost nothing can faze her, and she does not get
upset over anything. She is 19 years old. she acts as the house wife in the Tendos cooking and cleaning. She is a very Good
Cook. She is soft heart and really can't let anyone suffer. She takes care of her family very well now matter how little there is. I have notice through the series that she ALWAYS gets her way not even ICE WOMAN Nabiki can't resist Kasumi's charms. She sometimes takes items to Dr. Tofu, her appearance makes Dr. Tofu into a total mess incapable of doing anything right.

Tendo Soun
Soun is the middle aged father of Akane, Nabiki, and Kasumi. he is a skilled martial artist, but often allows Akane and Ranma
to defend the Dojo. He was trained along side Genma by Evil Sensei Happosai. He does not seem to have a job but
sometimes gets tempary civic jobs. he tends to spends his days playing go or shogi with Genma, who often cheats. He and
Genma trapped Happosai in a cave once but Happosai was released and came to live with Soun. Too Often Soun seems to be
a background charicter. Almost always someone else solves the problems. You warm up to Soun, he useless everytime you see him but he does love his girls and will face anything likely even Happosai if his girls were in real danger. I have not always liked Soun but I like him better than Genma for sure. Soun is much more likely to try to deal with something than Genma.

Hibiki Ryoga 
Ryoga is the eternal lost rival of Ranma. Their rivalry began after Ranma stole Ryoga's bread at their Junior High School.
they Arranged a fight in the vacant lot behind Ryoga's House. Ranma waited three days in the lot. But when Ryoga got there on
the Fourth day Ranma was gone. So Ryoga followed Ranma to China where he fell into heitoueniichuan. After swimming out
of the spring the Chinese Guide and Ganma tried to eat him because cold water changes him in to a little black pig. For
reasons that can only be called cruel fate, Ryoga's pig form is quite a hit with the girls. Akane especially finds this form cute.
She even calls him P-Chan. Ryoga believes that Akane is the only girl, who could love a pig, but Akane doesn't know that
Ryoga is a pig. Ranma does know that Ryoga is a pig and tries to separate Akane and Ryoga when he can. Ryoga is the kind
of guy that you warm up to after awhile. Even Ranma over time changes his mind about who Ryoga is to him. Ryoga is very
strong and often breaks things without thinking about it when he is angry or depressed. I like Ryoga, If i wrote Ranma 1/2 he would get Akane in the end! Ryoga is noble and mostly honourable.

Shampoo 
Shampoo is from a tribe of Amazon tribe in China. Her Village is called Joketsuzoku. Ranma after his trip to Jusenkyo fought
Shampoo in his girl form because he and Ganma had eaten her prize for the tournment she had won. Since Ranma Defeated
Shampoo, she gave him the Kiss of Death (Kisu No Shi) which meant that she would hunt him downand kill him as a her, Got
That? She then Followed him to Nippon and there they fought. She Then fought Ranma-kun and lost. She then fell in love with
Ranma's boy form while she had sworn to kill his girl form. After being shown that Ranma-kun and Ranma-chanare the same
person she went back to China. While she was back in China she trained with her Great Grandmother Cologne. During one of
their training days, Shampoo fell in to the Spring of drowned cat at Jusenkyo. She then moves to Nippon with Cologne
openning a Cafe. She contunes to go after Ranma causing him a number of problems. Shampoo is very beautful and more
agressive than Akane which is saying something. She often uses Ranma's Curse to get attention from him with this or that
"cure". Her broken English in the Dubbed English version is very cute.

Kuonji Ukyo 
Ukyo is the childhood pal of Ranma and his other wife to be. Genma betrothed Ranma to Ukyo in exchanged for her father's
okkinnomiyaki cart. She finds Ranma and comes back into his life by trying to grill him because she fights him on a large grill.
Ranma in the beginning doesn't even remember that Ukyo is a Girl. After the fight, Ranma makes peace with Ukyo and they
become friends agian, although Ukyo wants to be more than frends at some point. Later Ukyo tries to set up Ryoga and Akane
up for a date.But in general Ukyo doesn't try to make Ranma's life complcated like some of his other Girlfriends. Ukyo is also
the most level head on the people in Ranma 1/2. Many people think that Ukyo and Ryoga should hook up in the end but I rather giver her Ranma [Ukyo Hugs Daimyo Shi "really you do that?"].

Mousse
Mousse is the near blind boy who is in love with Shampoo. I am not sure if he know what she looks like because he is always
mistaking other people and animals for Shampoo. Shampoo wants nothing to do with him. he is the master of conselded
weapons. he once hid a bomb so large that it looked looked like a large wreaking ball being twice as tall as Ranma. He wears
Coke bottle bottom glasses. He followed Shampoo from China to Nippon. When he founded out about Ranma's envolvement
he tried to Kill Ranma. Knifes are a favorite of Mousse as he likes throwing them at his enemies. He has also fallen into a
Jusenkyospring so now when he gets hit with cold water he becomes a duck. He is not very swift in the wit department nor does he think thing through carefully. Shampoo said it best ehen she said "you a dumb duck."

Kuno Tatewaki 
Tatewaki Kuno is the "Rising star of the High school kendo world and the Blue Thunder of Furinken High." He has dual with
with Akane and keep losing which means that she can date him though she has never claimed that right. Ranma is the only other person that ever beat
Kuno. Kuno has also fallen in love with Ranma-chan. Kuno is a very fun charicter. he is honourible though it is not often that
it shows. he honestly loves both Akane and Ranma-chan, of course neither want him. He sits and medatates on Akane
or The pig tailed girl (as he knows Ranma Chan as). He got style and charisma though he is arrogent at times and more than a
little naive. Everything about him says I should hate him but I can. he too funny. He is my favourite guy charicter next to Ryoga on Ranma 1/2.

Kuno Kodaichi.
I hate her, I hate the voice, which is worse in the Japanese. I hate her attuded and above all else I hate her laugh. The sound grates on my nerves like nothing else. Daimyo Shi's rating: 0, that's right nothing AND it still is nothing!!!
Cologne
Cologne is great grandmother to Shampoo. she tries to help Shampoo get Ranma at times, who she calles son-in-law. Ranma
calles her old ghoul. She runs a Chinese resterant near the Tendo's training hall. She at one time had a relationship with
Happosai but he screwed it up by being himself. It still baffles me why she was three feet taller when she was young.

Sarusakine Sasuke
Sasuke is the poor abuse ninja retainer of the Kuno household. He drinks water from drain pipes, sleeps in a straw bed.
Takawake finds him to be indisiple when he can remember that is. More often he is taken for granted. He has a hard lot in life
but loves his masters anyways. Hey how can you know like this guy? There really does see, to be a bond between Takawaki and Sasuke.
